Thursday Mavs Donuts: Rick Carlisle wants to take us 'In The Foxhole' ... My Video Visit With Jae Crowder as we talk about 'character,' two-a-days in the basement and his 'personal chef,' Helen ... More talk about more camp bodies. ... It's September, so the Mavs have clearly made 'All The Right Moves' ... Congrats to Kevin Ollie ... It's Donuts!
DONUT 1: In the Foxhole ...
The Mavs aren't just going to Barcelona. And they aren't just going to Berlin.
They're also going to "the foxhole.''
"On Day 1 of training camp, it's on," Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle says. "It's always easier for players to integrate in a system when they're on the court 'doing,' not just talking about it. We're big on the 'doing' aspect. We're down on the talking aspect in terms of getting into long dissertations and film sessions. Guys need to do it.
That's not to denigrate the value of film study and classroom work. It's really more about utilizing the time the Mavs have to accomplish preseason goals ... and a big chunk of that time will be spend on airplanes and in hotels and in foreign countries.
"We're big into team-building and getting guys together and doing things so they can get to know each other,'' Rick says. "When we get into those situations where it's a foxhole and it's two minutes to go in a game, guys have each other's back."
DONUT 2: Another camp body? ...
Are the Mavs interested in former lotto pick Terrence Williams as a camp body?
DONUT 3: Fish goes 1-on-1 with Jae Crowder ...
Here, a Video Visit with Jae Crowder. How he spends his mornings ... and his evenings ... with meals in between provided by his "personal chef'' ... his mom, Helen:

DONUT 4: Wanna feel old? ...
UConn's Jim Calhoun is stepping down, leaving the college job to old friend Kevin Ollie. Ollie was a Mav-for-a-minute in 1997-98 and went on to play for a skillion teams in 12 years. This is a high-quality guy. There is no one who has come into contact with Kevin who isn't rooting for him.
DONUT 5: Thanks, Esparza's! ...
The gang at Esparza's in Grapevine loves that it's Cowboys season and the Cowboys love Esparza's, too! Let me put it this way: You never know who you'll see out on Esparza's famous front porch! Thanks for your sponsorship, Esparza's!
DONUT 6: "Professional's Professional'' ...
Watch my Video Visit with O.J. Mayo and tell me: You spend two minutes with O.J. and is there a way to not kinda like him? Watch it and tell me if you agree that he comes across as a "Professional's Professional'' ... punctuated with a hug.
DONUT 7: Want more Mavs? ...

DONUT 8: Follow Fish and the Mavs on Twitter ...
DONUT 9: Matt Barnes likes the Mavs? ...
Matt Barnes making noise about wanting to be a Mav. Not sure how that possibly works, for a number of reasons that are being addressed in this thread on DB.com Boards.
DONUT 10: All The Right Moves...
Proof that this is the time of year when everyone thinks they made all the right moves:
"We've got a low-post presence that we haven't had in a while with Chris Kaman," GM Donnie Nelson says. "We've got some versatility with Elton that can score low and take his guy out. Our backcourt, we've added some athleticism (Collison and Mayo) and defensive presence (Dahntay)) that we haven't had in a while. We literally cannot wait to hit the ground running here in a few weeks with training camp."
So the only special things Dallas did in acquiring veterans was to address every single need with every single guy!
DONUT 11: Fish on The Fan ...
It's Cowboys-heavy now, of course. But when the time is right, we'll also be talkin' Mavs on 105.3 The Fan. Listen live here for some Fish on Football and for breaking Mavs stuff, too ... throughout today and every day ... and we'll take you inside the teams in every possible way!
DONUT 12: The Final Word ...
LeBron is moving on from CAA and is going to let longtime buddy Rich Paul be his agent. As Paul's new agency is called "Klutch Sports Management,'' the first order of business is probably to work on the spelling thing.
